Abstract
Summary The action of Acetobacter suboxydans upon volemitol proceeds readily and nearly quantitatively to produce both D-mannoheptulose and D-altroheptulose (= sedoheptulose). This result is in agreement with the specificity rule of Hann, Tilden and Hudson for the action of A. suboxydans.
