Abstract
The methylthio-compounds IIIa-c behave similarly in their reactions with amines to give IVa, p, q. Compounds IIIa, b were synthesized from IIa, c and MeI in the presence of sodium ethoxide in ethanol. It does not appear possible to obtain IIIc by this method. Reaction of MeI with IIIe or IIIa results in vigorous evolution of methanethiol to give diethylcyanoacetic acid methylamide (V). In aqueous alkali, however, IIIc was obtained in high yield. The IR ...
