Abstract

15 16 enaminonitriles 13b, 13c, and 18 were prepared in high yield by the reaction of 2- oxocyclohexanecarbonitrile with the corresponding amine. Lower yields of imidazoles were observed when enaminonitrile concentrations greater than M were used. Presumably this is due to the occurrence of bimolecular reactions in more concentrated solution.
