Abstract

(+)-CAR-~-ENE (I) 2p3 can readily be obtained in reliable purity from (+)-car-3-ene (11), whilst (-)-cis-car-4-ene (111) and (+)-car-3(10)-ene (p-carene; IV) can be obtained from (11) by a more circuitous route. We have subjected car-%, 3-, and 4-enes to hydro- boronation followed by oxidation and have thus established a route to the stereoisomeric cis-caranols (V)-(IX) and the caranones (X), (XI), and (XII).
