Abstract

The isolation of a new triterpenoid acid, masticadienonic acid, from gum mastic is reported. By degradation experiments this acid has been characterised as a derivative of tirucall-7-en- 3P-01. It contains a ketone grouping at the customary 3-position and has an o $-unsaturated
