Abstract

Abstract Nitration of 2-nitro-1, 4-di-t-butylbenzene provides a mixture from which, in addition to 2, 4-dinitro-and 3, 4-dinitro-t-butylbenzene, all three possible dinitro-1, 4-di-t- butylbenzenes could be isolated. Pure 2, 3-dinitro-and 2, 6-dinitro-1, 4-di-t-butylbenzene have been isolated for the first time. The difficult separation of a mixture of 2, 6-dinitro-and 2, 5-dinitro-1, 4-di-t-butylbenzene was effected by using molecular sieve 10X.
