Abstract
The first-order rate constants for hydrolysis of the inden-1-yl and fluoren-9-yl3, 5- dinitrobenzoates in 80% aque-ous acetone at 80" C have been indirectly determined. By comparison with kinetic data for hydrolysis of suitable model compounds under similar conditions, these can be estimated to be approximately 10"-and 108-fold, respectively, retarded in rate by the presence of destabilizing antiaromatic effects in their rate- ...
