Abstract

The base-catalyzed condensation of 1, l-dinitroethane with electronegatively substituted unsaturated compounds results in the formation of substituted gem-dinitro compounds. The preparations of methyl 4, 4-dinitropentanoate, 5, 5-dinitro-% hexanone, 2, 2, 4- trinitropentane, 4, 4-dinitro-l-pentanal and methyl 3, 3-dinitro-n-butyl sulfone by this procedure are described.
