Abstract

The starting material, methyl dichlorofluoroacetate (I), was prepared in a good yield from methyl trichloroacetate by the action of antimony trifluoride in the presence of bromine. 6^ It was treated with an excess of arylmagnesium bromide to give 1, l-diaryl-2, 2-dichloro-2- fluoroethanol (II), which was then converted into the corresponding chloride III by refluxing with thionyl chloride in the presence of pyridine.
