Abstract
Abstract Attempted N, N-dibenzoylation of aminomethanesulfonic acid results in C S bond cleavage, generating synthetically useful α-benzamidomethylating electrophiles. The importance of this observation in regard to the reported failures to prepare sulfonamide analogs of peptides is discussed.
