Abstract
The acetone-, acetophenone-, and benzophenone-initiated photochemical addition of olefins to 1, 3-dioxolan and l, 3, 5-trioxan is described. The addition of terminal olefins to 1, 3- dioxolan leads to 2-alkyl-1, Sdioxolsns (1: 1 adducts) as the major products in yields of up to 50%; with diethyl maleate, diethyl (1, 3-dioxolanyl-2)-succinate may be obtained in yields of up to 90%.
