Abstract

Abstract: The synthesis and photochemical behavior of several members of the bis [n. 11 metacyclophanylidene series are presented. The properties of these compounds are compared to a model compound, tetra-3-tolylethylene. The photophysical properties of the tethered tetraphenylethylenes change dramatically with the length of hydrocarbon tethers connecting the gem-phenyl rings.
