Abstract

Abstract Kinetics of the addition of p-toluenesulfinic acid to p-substituted benzylideneacetophenones has been investigated. The reaction was second order, first order each in the concentration of sulfinic acid and chalcone. Effects of the p-substituents on the reaction rate were small (rho= 0.4). The reaction was strongly acid catalyzed.
