Abstract

Two other routes to the desired keto nitrile were uiisuccessful, since only starting materials were recovered when ethyl diphenylacetate was reacted with trimethylene chlorobromide and the partial saponification of methyl 2, 2-diphenyladipate to 5, j-diphenyl-S- carbomethoxypentanoic acid5 gave an inseparable mixture of products in our hands.
