Abstract

The base-catalyzed cyclization of S-(2-hydroxyalky1) propargylamines (111. R1= R3= H) has been reported'to give oxaxolidines (IV) instead of the expected morpholines (17). In our laboratories, however, it has been possible to prepare the morpholines (V) from compounds of the type I11 where both R and R1 are alkyl or aryl, as shown in Fig. 1.
