Abstract
Treatment of 2-benzyl-2-methyl-l, 3-diiodopropane (3a) with lithium aluminum hydride in ether or chromous sulfate in dimethylformamide yields mainly I-benzyl-1- methylcyclopropane (S), whereas, when tri-n-butyltin hydride is used, solvent-dependent mixtures of 5 and neopentylbenzene (6) result. When 2-benzyl-2-methyllJ3-dibromopropane (3b) is treated with LiAlH4, solvent-dependent mixtures of 5 and 6 are formed. When 2- ...
