Abstract: The electron-impact (EI) and field-ionization (FI) mass spectra of 3-oxo-2-butyl phosphate (phosphoacetoin, PAH2) and its mono-and dimethyl esters, MPAH and DMPA, all reveal additional components stemming from thermal reactions that occur both during sample storage and in the instrument. The acidic phosphates, PAH2 and MPAH, break down thermally to acetoin and monomeric metaphosphoric acid or methyl metaphosphate, ...
