Abstract
The reactions of seven of the eight monohalonaphthalenes with the sodium amide- piperidine reagent to form mixtures of I11 and IV go, to judge from product composition, entirely via" naphthalyne" intermediates (I and 11). a-Fluoronaphthalene, however, reacts partly via or-naphthalyne (I) and partly by direct displacement of fluorine by a piperidino group.
