Abstract
Vicarious nucleophilic substitution (VNS) of hydrogen in nitroarenes is a valuable synthetic tool in introducing various substituents into the ring. 1., 2., 3., 4., 5. and 6. It is particularly so since ordinary electrophilic substitutions are not applicable to such electron-deficient aromatic compounds.
