Abstract

The N-carbobenzoxy group of p-nitrophenyl esters of N-carbobenxoxyamino acids and N- carbobenzoxy peptides can be removed by catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of 1 equiv of hydrochloric acid without noticeable reduction of the nitro group.
