Abstract

Work in this Laboratory on material isolable from cork2 has led to a re-examination of the structure of phellonic acid, one of the saponification products of that portion of cork which is not appreciably soluble in solvents. The present paper is concerned with the degradation of phellonic acid and the synthesis of products identical in every respect with natural phellonic acid and its degradation products.
