Abstract
A study of the reaction of thiophene with chlorine was undertaken in these Laboratories when it became evident that the reaction was much more complex than had been indicated in the literature. Prior investigators reported1 that when the reaction products were distilled, hydrogen chloride was evolved throughout the distillation and the presence of addition products was indicated since the substitution products distilled without decomposition.
