Abstract

In this note we describe a convenient, cost-effective synthesis of guanidines3 from thioureas and amines. The key transformation involves activation of the sulfur in the thiourea through S- oxidation, followed by displacement of the activated sulfur group by amine nucleophiles, as depicted in eq 1.
