Abstract

Herein we report that the irradiation with visible light enhances the reducing ability of samarium diiodide. While samarium diiodide1 is well-known to reduce organic bromides and iodides to the corresponding hydrocarbons efficiently, 2 the reduction of organic chlorides with SmI2 alone is difficult.
