Abstract

Although transformations of the cyano functionality of nitriles in acidic or basic media afford a variety of important compounds,l neutral and mild conditions still need to be developed. During our studies on the activation of the GN unit of nitriles with metal complex catalysts, we found that low-valent ruthenium hydride complexes are excellent cat- alysts which show unusual and specific Lewis acidity towards nitriles under neutral conditions?
