Abstract

The presence of silver perchlorate changed the products in the reaction of benzyne with substituted benzene (anisole, toluene, chlorobenzene or methyl benzoate) to increase biphenyl and/or benzylidyne trifluoride derivatives by the sacrifice of benzobicyclo [2.2. 2] octatriene derivatives. In the case of toluene, o-methylbiphenyl (15) and 6- methylbenzocyclooctene (14) were considered to be formed via common intermediate. ...
