Abstract
Unsubstituted positions on pyrrole rings tend to be reactive and hence often require protection during synthetic sequences.'Such positions in monopyrroles and porphyrins are usually protected with halogen atoms that can be removed, with variable success, 2 using catalytic hydrogenation.
