Abstract

The cross-aldol condensations of cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone and acetone with benzaldehyde or cinnamaldehyde were catalysed in the presence of SOCl2, in anhydrous ethanol to synthesise α, α '-bis (substituted benzylidene) ketones with excellent yields (92- 97%).
