Abstract
Photoreduction in hexamethylphosphortiamide was found to be an efficient method to selectively reduce C F bonds α to the carboxyl group of alkyl perfluoroesters. The reaction proceeds by photoinduced electronic transfer from the excited phosphoramide. Conditions were found to remove selectively one fluoride and the reaction was applied to the synthesis of alkyl 2-hydro perfluoroesters.
