Abstract
A number of approaches to the synthesis of 5-(1-0-carboranylmethy1)-substituted pyrimidines are described including the successful synthesis of 2, 4-dichloro-5-(lo- carboranylmethyl)-6-methylpyrimidine. This general approach could potentially be utilized to produce a variety of boron-containing pyrimidine analogues (0-carboranes and/or nido- undecaborates).
