Abstract Laser-induced homogeneous pyrolysis of 1, 1-dimethyl-1-silacyclobutane yields 1, 1, 3, 3-tetramethyl-1, 3-disilacyclobutane and ethene as major products. In the presence of vinyl acetate, allyl methyl ether, acrolein, methyl vinyl ether, methyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate, the intermediate dimethylsilene is trapped by these monomers, or by products of their thermal decomposition, to yield both volatile and viscous or solid organosilicon ...
