Abstract

Abstract Reaction of perylene (1) with p-benzoquinone gives 3 a and 5 a, with naphthoquinone 4 a is formed. 5 a is also obtainable from 1 and 3 a. The quinones 3 a, 4 a and 5 a can be reduced to the corresponding hydrocarbons; however, only 3 a and 4 a undergo reductive acetylation.
