Abstract
An improved preparation of hydrazones, with triethylamine as catalyst, has been developed. Oxidation of aldehyde or ketone hydrazones by iodine in neutral medium affords the corresponding azines. In a limited number of examples, oxidation with iodine in the presence of triethylamine proceeds differently and furnishes either (from aldehyde hydrazones) gem-di-iodides or (from ketone hydrazones) vinyl iodides.
