Abstract
β-Alkoxy-and β-hydroxyalkyl radicals generated by sodium borohydride reduction of oxymercurials react with electron deficient olefins to give addition compounds in an homogeneous process. Heterogeneous reactions are also successful in the presence of catalytic amounts of surfactants and provide a superior method for the “one pot” reductive alkylation of oxymercurials.
