Abstract
Thioesters play a pivotal role in various fields of chemistry. In nature, new ester bonds are formed through the cleavage of a thioester within a transesterification process, for example, using acetyl coenzyme A.[1] In peptide chemistry, thioesters are used in native chemical ligation.[2] This process is closely related to the natural process of protein–protein conjunction through intein splicing.[3] Any of the aforementioned processes involves ...
