Abstract
Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is an oxidising agent used in organic chemistry, is one of the most versatile and vigorous of the commonly used oxidants, and has been extensively employed in acid, alkaline and neutral medium. The oxidation products can be glycols, hydroxy ketones, diketones, epoxides or cleavage products dependent on the reaction conditions.
