Abstract

13 C spectra of some anilines 1 and annelated anilines 2 are reported. Variations in the chemical shift of the para carbon atom are used to estimate twist angles of the amino group. Results so obtained are compared to base strength. It is found that in twisted anilines a rough correlation between twist angle and base strength exists.
