Abstract

Abstract The McLafferty rearrangement for 2, 5-diphenyl-1-hexene and its deuterium labelled analogues has been investigated. The α-methylstyrene fragments originating from different parts of the molecular ion retain the charge with equal probability and afford identical metastable spectra. The geometry of the transition state is discussed.
