Abstract
The suitability of certain cyclopentylacylamides as models for the steric situations of the amide groups in vitamin BI2 is discussed. The syntheses of (l-methylcyclopentj. l) acetamide, p-(1-methylcyclopenty1) propion-amide, and~-(trans-2, 2, 3-trimethylcyclopentyl) propion- amide are described, and the rates of hydrolysis of these and other model amides in aqueous hydrochloric acid-dioxune at 50'are recorded.
