Abstract
1 2 to 3, 3, 4, 5, 7-pentamethyl-l-indanone (3) which was directly compared with a sample of 3 obtained by independent synthesis from ll2, 4-trimethy1benzene via the ketone 4. The structure of 4 was obtained by conversion to 5, 6, and 7, and establishing the structure of these. The hydrogenation of the a,@-unsaturated ketone 4 in the presence of Pd-C in acetic acid solution gave 5, 6, and 7 in the ratio of 6: 2: 1. We attribute this extensive ...
