Abstract

Scandium triflate is an efficient catalyst for diazocarbonyl insertion reactions into O H, S H and carbamate N H bonds. The O H and S H insertion reactions proceed at ambient temperature and selective O H insertion is possible in the presence of a carbamate N H. A novel approach to α-amino acids involving intramolecular carbene N H insertion as the key step has been demonstrated.
