Abstract
N-Aryl-and N-alkyl-S-chloroisothiocarbamoyl chlorides represent a novel class of sulfenyl chlorides and the true intermediates in the conversion of isothiocyanates to isocyanide dichlorides by chlorine. They are obtained in high to nearly quantitative yields by chlorination of the corresponding isothiocyanates as well as diisothiocyanates with 1 mole of chlorine for each isothiocyanato group.
