Abstract
The addition of certain silicon hydrides to phenylalkenes of the formula Ph (CHz), CH= CHz (I) or PhCH= CH (CHZ), H (11)(n= 0 to 4) with chloroplatinic acid as the catalyst leads in each case to two products: A, Ph (CH2),+, SiMe, Y3-., and C, PhCH (SiMe, Y3-.)(CH~).+ 1H. Examples were studied with Y= C1, F, or Me3Si0 and z= 0, 1, 2, or 3. The relative amounts of A to C in each case depends upon the nature of Y and the values of z and n. Substituents ...
