Abstract:@,@'-Disubstituted and a,@'-disubstituted tantalacyclopentane complexes (eg, Cp” CI2TaCH2CHMeCHMeCH2; Cp”= q5-C5Me5) are the active intermediates in the catalytic dimerization of RCH== CH2 (R= H, Me, n-Pr, n-Hex, CH2CHMe2, CH2CMe3) to a mixture of tail-to-tail (tt) dimer (98% when R= Me) and head-to-tail (ht) dimer (100% when R= CH2CMe3), respectively, at rates on the order of one turnover/h at 30 'C.
