Abstract
Experimental In each experiment 30.0 g. of pure D-mannitol was diisolved in 200 ml. of concentrated hydrochloric acid and the solution boiled gently under reflux for the specified time (Table I). The reaction mixture was then Concentrated in oacuo to a sirup, dissolved in 150 ml. of water, treated with decolorizing carbon and reconcentrated in vacuo.
