Abstract
Summary The benzoin condensation of quinaldehyde produces 192-di-2-quinolyl-l, Sethenediol and its reduction product, 1, 2-di-2-quinolyl-l, 2-ethane-diol. A chelated ring formula is proposed to account for the high stability of the enediol. The validity of Brown and Hammick's formula for the quinaldil obtained on the oxidation of 1, 2-di-2-quinolyl-1, 2- ethenediol is questioned since the compound responds to physical and chemical tests ...
