Abstract
N-Methyl-N-((R)-1-phenylpropan-2-yl)prop-2-yn-1-amine (1) (Selegiline), a levorotatory acetylenic derivative of phenethylamine is commonly referred to in the clinical and pharmacological literature as l-deprenyl. It is a selective, irreversible inhibitor of monoamineoxidase-B (MOA) and is quite effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease as well as Alzheimer's disease 1, 1a and 1b when used along with l-DOPA.
