Abstract

In a survey of the reactions of phosphine with various carbonyl compounds, Messinger and Engels prepared interesting crystalline derivatives with pyruvic acid and benzaldehydes2 Although they made some effort to determine the structures of these materials, particularly that of the pyruvic acid derivative, their results appear inconclusive.
