Abstract
1 5 6 regioselectively acetalized. Neither acetalization of the carbonyl group in 1 nor racemization of the chiral carbon in 2 and 3 takes place during the reaction. Although the reactions are accompanied by the formation of Michaeltype adducts 3, 8, and 10 as the byproducts, their formation is suppressed by using Na2HP04 as an additive.
