Abstract
Much work has been done on the benzoin condensation and various suggestions have been advanced as to its mechanism, but it can scarcely be said that the reversibility of the reaction has been demonstrated in an unexceptionable manner. Much of the work is irrelevant as it was carried out under conditions far different from those ordinarily used.
